outline of the guy After all those textures were laid in, the backgrounding was done (<-nouns as verbs, watch out!). I then did some outlining of my subjects and transferred those onto the boards. Using the overhead projector, I projected a line drawing on acetate onto the board for the first image [on the right]. For this image, I didn't enlarge & project, I just used the graphite transfer method to get the drawing onto the board. Not sure which I prefer. Each allows a bit of control in different ways. Hmm. Anyway, after that, I redrew the linework using a fine-line Sharpie. Sharpies are so great. Yes, indeed. Here's a close-up of the figure.

And here's the drawing for the second panel.

the SF triptych So for this next magic trick, I mean painting, I decided to make a triptych. hoo hah. I started with three 13inch (or 14inch, I haven't actually measured 'em) wood circles. I picked these up at Home Depot for the low, low clearance price of a dollar each. yes, that IS a sweet deal.

These discs were gessoed and then painted over with white and/or a nice mauve basecoat. Both of which were painted with flat latex paint. After that, I got out some really course sandpaper and fought with 'em like so. Here's a close up cause I know you love the textures like I do. oooo yeah.

After that, I then painted some decorative spirally / swirlly type things. Most of this background type stuff wa done with a pallette knife, though a small part was done with a smallish brush. I wanted a loose messy-ish feel, ya see? Because I like those, too. That's what you see over there on the right. But here's a nice close up of the finished textured background. None of the pics in this post are particularly color-accurate- I'll let ya know when they are.

small canvas This is a small piece on canvas: only 5 x 5 inches in fact. Base coats of latex, with the swirls added over that.

The figure is a combination of acrylic and sharpies (black + colors).

That's about it, I'm on vacation this week.

After I transferred the line drawing onto the background, I filled in the entire shape of her silhouette with white latex paint. From there I used mixtures of acrylic + matte medium to build up her color. Linework was then re-defined with the trusty sharpie. Here's a close-up for ya. This painting was very recently featured in an art show [Intimate] organized by Spindle Desco here in SF.

Sydney Stencil Festival came and went. Haven't come across any flics of this one really like the Melbs StencilFest. I'll post some if I find 'em.
