Here we have a mixed media piece with some collaged elements thrown in for good measure. The flag and a bit for is neck scarf (not all that visible in this pic) are collaged from newspaper. The rest of it is acrylic and Sharpie. Mmmm hmmm. It’s rather small like the other recent mixed media drawings, done on scrap cardboard.

Some key search terms entered to end up here at Tell.Tale.Heart this week:
“fucking cool drawings in black ink” – I think I might have covered that one
“awesome metal” – unfortunately, I probably didn’t satisfy this search with any awesome metal.
At least not that I know of...

I decided that instead of doing a mixed media drawing this week, that I was going to make some stickers. And so I did. Stickers, you just never know where they'll show up.

Over on the right there you’re looking at, what I call the new wave character. Indeed he was inspired by the fashion sensibilities of the 80s. Well that and I picked up a set of pastel Sharpies. “Pastel Sharpies?!” you say? I know, I know, it’s crazy. Who knew? And yes that is one of the most exciting things that I’ve found in Indy. So was I inspired by pastel Sharpies to make new-wave looking characters or did my love of new-wave inspire me to seek out pastel markers? Who can say? It’s the chicken-or-the-egg conundrum isn’t it? Or better yet: “it is what it is.”
I know what you’re thinking... well no actually I don’t. But if you were wondering how I drew 4 free-hand characters so alike, I have an answer. They aren’t really free-hand. Well I mean the original drawing was... I taped together four index cards and drew my new waver onto ‘em. Then I cut a good amount of lines so I’d have enough of the image to make multiples via stencil. After I stencil the image (with a Sharpie, not paint), I connect all of the bridges and do the fills. See?
I also did a two-headed new-waver with a keyboard tie. Keyboard tie = essential. Now go listen to some old Billy Idol damn you.

*Someone ended up on my page by doing a Google search for: "drawings that are crazy/ill/cool"

I hope they weren't disappointed.
Here’s a drawing done on some newspaper that was glued onto some card. The figure is all acrylic, the background was done with a Sharpie. This one was inspired by... nothing really. I admit it. It’s another of those stream-of-consciousness type drawings I’ve been rockin lately.
I’d sent a Girl with Gun piece to a show in New Jersey that happened awhile back. Here’s the flyer from that.
Uh huh. And here’s a little collage threw together using the Zoloft egg/rock/blob (whatever the fuck he is).

Oh YEAH. A few weeks back I picked up the Bloc Party CD. It’s pretty sweet. Go get it now, pretend you had it a long time ago and that way the scene kids won’t laugh at you.
I only look out for your best interest.

Mmmmm Hmmm. It appears as if another week has gone by. How about that? Yes indeed, another drawing on cardboard. This time it was oil pastel for the eyes and acrylic for the background- all the rest was drawn with a Sharpie. The skin tone color you see is the bare cardboard.

I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with all of these smallish drawings that I’ve been producing whilst I travel. I’m kicking around the idea of trading them all away with other artists once I get back to Chicago. Who knows, I’ve got awhile to consider it. I’m almost out of the small pieces of card that I’ve been using to make these drawings. I’ll have to check if I have anymore in my studio the next time I’m home… hmmm, I’m rambling aren’t I? Yes, yes I am.
I’m glad it’s the weekend. Loooong work week.
