This week I went back to the Che on Che piece that I did (Ernie hearts you). I knew at the point when I'd 'finished it' that I really hadn't. "Huh?" you say.

I'm usually pretty good about knowing when I have or haven't worked enough with a piece. I've known quite a few people (peers and students) over the years that never had that sense (and would readily fess up to not having it). It's not easy to know. But over the years of 'making stuff' I've come to learn that I can (and do) trust myself enough to know. [You grammarians out there fckin love me don't you?]
So anyway, I knew I was finished with Che for the moment, but that I'd be back to get that background up to par. I cut two new stencils for the background elements and used one that appears in the top thought bubble. The three stencils were sprayed about 25 times to get to the final look (an estimate). If you include the thought bubble, there's a whole lot of individuals sprays on this. Other than that, I added black borders around all of the thought bubbles with a paint pen and some black splatters / drips as well.

Stenciling was done, but it's not ready to be posted up yet...
Stenciling was done, but it's not ready to be posted up yet...
This has something to do with a (hopefully) international, collaborative, trade oriented, art project I'm planning. Intriguing, no?
And yes, yes indeed that IS me looking quite debonaire and smoking a pipe.

So here's what became of the last background that I'd posted earlier. It the main character from the video game HALO blasting a Slim Jim.

WTF, right?
Ok well... I asked my brother what he wanted for a Holiday gift and he was being difficult and wouldn't tell me. I'd planned on making him a piece of art all along, but I wanted some ideas for subject matter. He wouldn't give me any ideas of what he was into, so I threatened that if he didn't reply that I'd get him "a meat-stick" for his gift. He never did reply so: he got a meat-stick as part of his gift (more or less). He's also into videos games if you hadn't guessed. Sprayed background on illustration board, 16x20- 3 layers for the figure, 3 for the Slim Jim. Here's a process pic of the HALO vs. Meat-stick piece.
I also did another version of the Screamer/Shadows piece as a gift for someone. This version was done on a cabinet door as well, though quite different from the original doors I produced. This door had an irregular shape, so the layout / composition had to be changed a bit. I detached the hinges while I was working on this and then reassembled the two separate pieces of wood after it was done. Here's a side view of it. I'm quite happy with the look of it.

Here's what became of one of the other backgrounds. John Travolta as Danny Zuko in the movie Grease. This one was for my sister. I'm pretty happy with the way the background came out in this one, too.

3 layers again, sprayed background, 16x20 on mat board. Oh yeah, T-Birds rule!
I've cut a few stencils, but the weather's been too craptastic for me to do anything outside. I don't think I've mentioned how much I hate snow and cold, or just cold, or just snow, yet this week... oh wait there we go.
On a totally unrelated, but necessary rambling note:
Conflict- employing all means necessary.
One of the best brit-punk cds ever. If you claim to like punk you should own this, or have plans to own it, or I'm sending the scene police to confiscate your cd collection.
